    Ethernet takes advantage at Wimbledon

    Organisers of Wimbledon have turned to Ethernet to boost the tournament's internet bandwidth, it has been reported.

    Bosses at the SW9 tennis event have adopted the Ethernet-over-fibre solution which enables them to easily flex the bandwidth it has available at different times of the year, according to ComputerWeekley.com.

    The All England Tennis Club is taking advantage of the Ethernet technology to offer maximum bandwidth during the championship.

    Jeff Lucas, IT director for the club, said it has gradually increased this over the years but wanted to step things up in time for 2008and the flexible network and tailored costs enabled this.

    "We always try to ensure that we have sufficient bandwidth capacity to support our media," he added.

    IDC's Digital Marketplace Model and Forecast report released last week forecasts the number of people using the internet worldwide is expected to soar to nearly two billion over the next eight years and a growing number of people are using new technologies.
